OHYA 200HR YTT will provide you with all the information and tools you will need to further your own, personal yoga practice, and if you choose, you will be qualified to teach yoga at any studio. This training will satisfy all the requirements and standards of Christian Yoga Association and Yoga Alliance.
The unique difference about OHYA is we come from a Devotional, Bhakti style of yoga. Bhakti means devotion to God, and at OHYA we are devoted to Jesus Christ our Lord. Open Heart Yoga Teacher Training will help you build boldness and fearlessness coupled with humility and grace. You may choose to do this training for your own healing and growth or for the healing and growth of others. Either way, the world around you will be changed for the better, revealing the goodness of God through you.
You will not only learn the basics of the 200HR YTT, you will also learn to develop a faith based practice, incorporating scripture and life lessons into each class that you take or teach. Whether you are at a secular yoga studio, in a church or at a retreat you will learn to blend your faith and your practice.
Yoga is a tool that provides a vehicle to allow for the integration of the Spirit, Soul & Body. Your faith will be enhanced and your devotion will grow deeper. Be encouraged if you are a Christian who teaches yoga, practices yoga, or one who is interested in learning more about yoga, you can do all things through Christ Jesus who rescues you.
At Open Heart Yoga we praise God for the gift of yoga. We believe that He has led us to this practice which provides ongoing opportunities for growth and development in our Christian walk.
Yoga tools are used to:
~ calm and harness our thoughts ~
~ open and train our body bringing stability and balance~
~ open and establish our heart in God's plan of love ~
This 200 YTT is one way to bless God and others.
Open your heart to include God's presence
in your yoga practice and you will start to soar!
"To see you take hold of these holy practices, apply them to your own life, and then teach them to others, is a gift to the world that we know pleases God." Dayna Gelinas

What To Expect From OHYA Training:
We are Spirit, Soul & Body.
Yoga asana is to condition the body.
Pranayama techniques transform and calm the mind using the breath.
The practice of meditation ignites the spirit uniting us with God.
Jesus – Jesus our Savior, God the Creator our Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit our Teacher and Guide, will be honored in Open Heart Yoga Academy's YTT as the One True God, Creator and Lord of ALL. Learn how God is present in all aspects of yoga from the postures, to the breath, to the mind, to the heart. We will get our Biblical information from the Bible. We find that the Biblegateway App to be a very resourceful tool. Other books and material will be referenced also. You will learn how to weave the Word of God into the intention of your class.
Asana – We will study foundational yoga postures. You will be taught how to approach the pose, how to hold the pose, and how to come out of the pose safely, as well as modifications and contraindications for each one. These postures will be the ones specifically featured in The Key Poses of Yoga by Ray Long. As listed above.
Human Anatomy & Physiology – Major muscles and bones used in each posture will be addressed. The primary text will be The Key Muscles of Yoga by Ray Long. As listed above.
Pranayama – Learn various breathing techniques and how to teach these pranayama exercises. We will learn how and why the breath enhances or hinders the practice of yoga.
Energy Anatomy & Physiology – The study of the chakras, the energy centers in the body. Learning about this energetic anatomy and how to use your energy to accomplish all that God has called you to do and be.
Mantras, Chanting and the Power of the Word – The discipline of the mind will be addressed and Biblical methods of renewing the mind will be taught. Learn and experience the power of chanting in English and Sanskrit (the ancient yoga language). Using Biblical scriptures and teachings guided by the Holy Spirit.
Meditation/Prayer/Contemplation – Learn the difference between these three holy practices of a Believer. Apply each one to your life and yoga practice.
Traditional Yoga Philosophy, History & the Christian View – These views will be compared and contrasted so that you will understand the beginnings and origin of yoga. You will learn the foundations of our Christian beliefs and be encouraged in the Truth and Love of God to build a Redeemed yoga practice for you and your students. Going forward in the Confidence of the Christian Believer’s value in practicing and teaching yoga from a Christian perspective.
Yoga Sutras & Bhakti Sutras - Yoga is a study of the calming of the fluctuations of the mind. Therefore we will study the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali. These sutras are valid and very useful tools . There are however some sutras that are contradictory to our Biblical beliefs we will take time to discover and discus these and how to present our beliefs in a non-judgmental and loving manner.
The Bhakti Sutras by Narada are guidelines and directives on living a life based on Devotion to God. We will look at these with the eye of Truth to see which tools to use in going deeper in our relationship with Lord Jesus.
Principles of Demonstration, Movement & Alignment - Apply these principles to the teaching of your yoga classes and individual postures and keep your students safe. One proper demonstration can clarify your teaching and omit the need for many words. Learn to apply and demonstrate the principles of alignment common to all yoga postures, and watch the transformation of your yoga practice as you explore the potential in your body and mind.
Assisting/Correcting Students – Learn when and how to give hands-on adjustments and verbal cues to guide your students into an optimum yoga experience.
Ethics for Yoga Teachers and Believers – Discuss the motivation behind ethics. Learn to apply them from the heart, to your life and teaching.
Yoga Lifestyle/Lifestyle of a Believer – Find out how one reinforces the other through the study of the yoga morals and tools. Along with our Biblical moral standards we will learn awareness and balance. We will learn to recognize the similarities that reenforce a balanced life.
Ayurveda - Is a sister science to Yoga, the science of life. We will learn about this ancient practice and how the two work together to bring optimal health to our bodies and minds.
Practice Teaching – You will have several practice teaching opportunities with your classmates. In these opportunities you will receive immediate feedback. Once you have completed your final Practice Teaching Session on our last weekend, you will feel comfortable and confident in leading a basic yoga class for all levels. These teaching practicums are valuable for someone learning to teach yoga for the first time.
Teaching Styles – Discover your own teaching style as we consider some of the major styles of Hatha Yoga. You will be expected to go to at least 10 other yoga classes at other studios and complete an evaluation form about your experience. only 1 online class will be permitted.

Qualities of a Teacher – Find out what makes a good teacher good and learn how to apply that information to your teaching.
A Student’s Process of Learning – Learn the different learning styles and types of yoga students and how those differences need to be addressed in a yoga class. Learn to "read" your students and to be flexible enough to change and detach from your plan to what they may need.
Business Aspects of Teaching Yoga – Kim will share her personal experiences of teaching yoga from a Christian perspective in different settings, providing you with the tools you will need to begin your own classes at a studio, gym, or church.
